Wilson's Almanac Scriptorium home

Welcome, honoured guest. I intend, over some time, to place this introductory matter beneath the animated masthead above, on virtually every page of Wilson's Almanac, though possibly it's temporarily missing (or badly busted, due to my months of non-attention, long away from home in hospital with my Extreme TBI), because many readers arrive on a certain page here, for their first time, and don't know their way around as I do. I'm well aware that it might be a nuisance to some, but please feel free to use, or ignore, any links, and scroll down to other matters if you wish.
Kindly ignore misaligne tezt, an do on ny errors. It's gradually improving this site. Gradual being the operative word, because It's a big job for me. You'll generally know when you've reached the foot of the page when you see a mauve Almanac directory bar. The whole almanac, and I, are under reconstruction. A big thankyou, and bright blessings to you.

Here's what one reader thinks of the Wilson's Almanac free daily ezine

I subscribed to Wilson's Almanac on April 10, 2001! One of the very first few subscribers! I'm curious as to how many of the early subscribers are still reading?

Pip is to be congratulated for his stick-to-it-ive-ness! I have enjoyed this gem of wisdom for so many years now, and watched it grow from its original form to the wonderful wealth of variety and information it is today! I may not always agree with everything Pip says, but he says what he says with such honest conviction I must admire him. Would that our World Leaders would use the lessons that history has taught us. They surely would make more informed decisions. They could read Wilson's Almanac just for the history lessons. What a bonanza of information!

Thanks and g'day Pip!

I loved this Almanac, when I lived in Canberra, and I love now here in Queensland, I appreciate all the hard work you put into gifting this Almanac to us all, thank you. I look forward to seeing what treasures each day holds, I also love the little animated figures, I think the Almanac is perfect.
MH

Pip Neither my wife nor I know how to properly express our gratitude for your excellent magazine. It has been a welcome boon for us this year past while we've wondered how to sustain not only our family, pay the rent, and meet the mounting debt we've incurred since we both became seemingly unemployable. The strain on our relationship has been immense. Your magazine has been a bright star in helping us cope.
TB

What a huge, diverse, infinitely interesting place you've created. I love your homepage, "think universally, act terrestrially" ... and I'm just beginning your Blogmanac. Thank god for creative levity, optimism, whimsy, and more ... Yay Pip!

Thank-you again for the valuable insights you provide, as well as the enlightenment and inspiration. You've certainly broadened my horizons. Your e-mail continues to be the one I read first whenever I get my turn on the computer (I have two teens).

Hi Pip! Thank you for adding us as link partners, to your wonderful website! I will be placing your banner in other websites we have as well, just have to find the right places. We are in Costa Rica and lots of our sites are geared towards Costa Rica, but your site definitely fits in with many issues we cover, and is an interesting treat for our visitors as well. I will go through your site again, and perhaps add your almanac ticker and some of your other sites, and newsletter as well. It is a very big site, and international in scope. Once again, thank you and I'll keep in touch. Sunny Greetings from Costa Rica!

Hi Pip. As always your newsletter was absolutely delightful and wonderfully informative. The Zodiac feature was super and I found myself spending quite a bit of time there. The quotes and other features were terrific as well, but being a person who dabbles in poetry I have to commend you on your most recent poem, 'The Swan.' What a profound piece that was and one that if the world would stop a minute to think about it would find it could teach us all how we should be thinking instead of how some choose to think. Bravo Pip!!!! Keep writing those awesome poems. Oh, and congrats on the growing membership. It's no mystery why it is soaring to the rooftops with such a quality newsletter that packs punch and fun and education all into one tidy email. I simply adore it and thank you for your creativity and passion to send it out each day.

I love the almanac. It's a lucky-dip trip, Pip. I'm never sure what exact combination of information, inspiration, and fun is going to come at me from one day to the next. It's like unwrapping a new present every morning. My favourite? Your own writing, prose or poetry (and the Manual means a lot to me). Love and good wishes, and please stay in good health, 'cos what would we do without you?

Dear Pip, Its been such a great time with this almanac of yours, you don’t know how much I and so many others have enjoyed this! I’ve spent so many hours being enlightened by your wonderful creation, learning the oddest facts about little known saints or great thinkers or even musicians. I heartily suggest that you make a book of your almanac. I think it would be a big success, you are a internet myth around the world. I have told everyone I know about you, I don’t know if they ever subscribed, but I sent them copies to try out. I was never a contributor, but I was a very willing consumer!

Kenya

I live in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. I always save the Almanac to read last (saving the best for last!), so I can spend more time on it. History is one of my interests, so finding out info without doing too much research is nice. Excellent job, Pip! I subscribe to a lot of newsletters, but yours is the only one with a sound file attached - very nice! [Not any more, unfortunately. I had some complaints about music. -- PW] Don't know if you've done this before (haven't been a subscriber for very long), but I think it would be nice to find out how many different countries the Almaniacs come from.

I subscribed in July 2001 and have enjoyed every issue that I've read - I am continually amazed at the quantity of interesting, informative and entertaining information that Pip churns out daily - how he does it without help is beyond my comprehension but long may it continue - I recommend WA to many of my friends & family. The incredible variety coupled with the quantity of fun reading that each issue contains are the 2 outstanding points of this outstanding ezine - To me it's like having a new issue of Reader's Digest land in your letterbox every day !!! Sometimes a wee bit long but you can always skip any section that is not of great interest to you.

Pip I really enjoy your almanac and look forward receiving it every day. And almost every day you really surprise me with your tip !!! Uauuuuuuuuuu ........ Don't get me wrong, the whole almanac is magnificent, you know it, but your tips and often also At My Disk usually make me stop and really think! I don't have always time to read the whole almanac, but when I do, I always enjoy it and, of course, I always learn something new (I'm thinking especially of Let's celebrate!; it's true that we studied about Roman and Greek history at school, but you know, through the years these things disappear from the memory - at least from mine ......). Well, I must get back to my work. With love and best wishes,

Pip, You are doing such an excellent job each day to brighten up spirits and bring a bit of insight into our worlds. I especially love reading your Manual ...it touches a part of me I've been struggling with for a long time... Glad to know someone else has broken free of it ... although I know it will never be over ... life is always a struggle, we just have to try and make ourselves do the best we can to survive. The inner peace you talk of is what we all strive to have and I, like you, am on a struggle to keep it each day...so I appreciate your thoughts and the views you've shared about your own life as they are similar to my own. May you continue to be blessed,

I did appreciate the quality and content of your almanac before, but I feel that now you have achieved a level of professionality in the presentation of the same. You have got to be one dedicated, passionate individual!!!! Your 'almanac' is more than just that. I can see that you must have spent countless hours setting the whole thing up, and, with unbelievable results. It is fantastic!!! I enjoy, in fact I scroll through my e-mails every day to find yours and immediately forget about all the others until I've spent considerable time with you. Sometimes I have a folder full of your dailies so I can be sure I didn't miss anything. Knowing how much effort you put forth, I hope that you don't get burnt out because this is "THE BEST"!!!!!

Pip
I haven't written before, but I had to stop and tell you how much we love you ... Everyone where I work asks me "what does Pip have to say about today?" I keep a few gems in my head to tell them what we are celebrating. My kids (full grown) get emails of your stuff whenever it is pertinent to them. Thanks so much for giving us something to celebrate every day ... Thanks for doing such fun stuff for all of us.

Pip,
I don't know what to say! I literally stumbled upon your web site while searching for a flower. Needless to say, I forgot what flower I was even searching for now. There's got to be a connection there somewhere. I have only made it 3/4 of the way down the first page and already I'm in Love! How could I have lived for so long without your site to give me so much knowledge I didn't have, entertainment I always need and facts I never new I could live without. We are talking about a complete site of useful-useless knowledge that everyone in this galaxy needs every moment to be alive. Either that or I have the flu. Thank you for doing the impossible with the unknown, and sharing it with the ungrateful who shall inherit the earth. May we all be happy and helpful.

This is the second e-mail I received from you. I am a new subscriber. I wish to congratulate you on a wonderful site. I have enjoyed these 2 Wilsons Almanac sendings more than any other subscription I have coming to my home. Thank you once again, and I look forward to receiving more. I was curious as to where you are located. Outside the US?

Hi,
Just got your first e-mail & it is truly amazing. LUV IT!!!! Gosh, you really put a lot of time and effort into this. When do you sleep??? (smiles) You really have to work your butt off to compile this much stuff. Summer??? I live in Alabama in the good old USA & it is cold here. WE don't get snow but sure gets cold!!!!!!! ok, enough rambling.....enjoy your page & can hardly wait till tomorrow!!!!!! Maybe i will learn about Australia. All i know now is Crocodile Dundee, kangaroos, Aborigines, and hello mate!!! LOL luv yall's accent!!!!
G
p.s. luv your sense of humor!!!

Pip,
Your messages provided spark in dark times, shored me through days I didn't think would pass, enlightened me during times of learning, piqued my curiosity in times when my thinking was cracking open, and pointed to a lantern when I was sure the way was lost. I offer a special thanks for
The FeelGood Manual for feeling better. At the time, I remember reading it every Tuesday from the time you began sending it out until the end. Many weeks. I remember the phoenix animation it carried that reminded me that another chapter was available. I copied out bits and put them into my calendar as automatic recurrent reminders. Thank
you, friend, for that gift. I still benefit from it. Greatest wishes for all good things. I hope we get to keep in touch. If not, know that you have made a difference in my life and that I am tremendously grateful.
LP

WHAT A COMMENDABLE EFFORT!!
I APPLAUD YOU SIR FOR AN INTELLIGENT RENDERING...AT LAST ... ON THIS INTERNET
THANK YOU

Pip Wilson's Almanac is the best there is, hands down. Pip Wilson himself is one of the best friends any person could ever want to encounter, too. I've been online buds with Pip since 2003, the year he started his dream of creating what is commonly called "the Almy".
OhHoneyGee

It has become such that my day is started having tea with you and your almanac and it is not so good a day without this morning ritual.
L

Wow!!! I AM E-MAILING MANY OF MY FRIENDS TO CHECK OUT THE ALMANAC. Pip obviously has vast historical knowledge with the ability to present it in an entertaining way. He also has a sense of humor that varies from gentle, to wicked.
DB

Pip, you rock! You are representative of the wave of enlightenment/awakening consciousness that will ultimately turn our destructive world path around to joyous and all-embracing sustainability! Thanks for your good vibes and keep 'em coming!!!!!
DM

I solemnly promise to promote, suggest, flatter, and be amazed by your Herculean efforts. I will be a good Almaniac and promise to inform you of traditions pertaining to my lil corner of the planet. I will send $$$ whenever I can to help defray the personal costs to you for sharing this wonderful world with me. Your insightful writings and voluminous links are MOST handy and thought-provoking. You, my pal, are helping the planet more than you even know.
TI

I just wanted to thank you for your newsletter and your wonderful Manual of Feel Good, I have read through chapter 3, and it seems to be exactly what I ve been trying to do since I went off the Celexa and hormones. You are such a blessing to us! Your real world look at depression is just what I need! I have been in severe depression since 6 weeks after my complete hysterectomy( Aug 06, 2001), at 36. Hormone replacement therapy for me only added to the depression, and then the meds effected my social life and personal life with my husband. Your writings have made more sense than what any doctor has told me. The feelings you mentioned in chapter 3 are exactly what I have been feeling, it's a self worth thing. Training my mind to know that just because I can no longer have children, that I am not a half a woman. I am worthy of my husband, and good kid. I will continue to read your manual. I am glad you are free, my husband's disability has affected our financial situation, because I would love to pay for your ezine. You are incredible! But big THANK YOU for it being free!!! I know that you will be blessed for what you do!
TF

I am grateful to receive Wilson's Almanac. Your talent is astounding and I love the info. about ancient celebrations, holy festivals, etc.
DH

Hi!
I'm a relatively new subscriber. Normally I really dislike the daily stuff that is sent out by the traditional services but your site is a real joy! I will continue to share your newsletter with my friends – since I love your ‘offbeat’ sense of humor, the daily tidbits, and the wonderful musical selections and animations. Thanks again for being a real beacon of light! It's obvious you spend a lot of time crafting the communications ... and it is very much appreciated.
KB

Can't wait to get my daily fix of Wilson`s Almanac.
Bob-O

Your daily ezine never ceases to surprise me. From the very top, the backgrounds, the content, and of course, the bottom chuckle. The FeelGood Manual provides a road to feeling good about being alive -- and isn't that what life is about?
Everyday you educate, illuminate and make me smile. Your ezine is an entertaining and powerful part of my day. Thanks Pip, I appreciate you and your ezine.

Thank you for allowing me to share your most informative site.  I am a recently-retired educator with a new computer.  You have restored my faith in the human race.  Your creativeness should not go unnoticed.   For designing this comprehensive offering you should be highly commended. You will enjoy a rainbow-filled future !
Mrs M

Only received a couple of issues, but like what I've seen! As a psychology grad student, I'm really impressed with your feel good manual. Only read 2-3 chapters so far, but it's good!
CW

Hi Pip,
Everyday is a new experience with you. It has been in the months I've been with you, but much more so lately. Your words have been helping me recover from several losses recently, and I thank you for the inspiration. I love the music, also, and that laugh is contagious! I'm very impressed with the way your pages look, very artistic and upbeat. I've told tons of people about you, and I also cheat and vote a bunch of times a day...shhh! I shall bid you adieu for now. I'm going to seize the night! It's 2am and I'm a bit
sleepy. Till the next time.
J

Pip,
Just wanted you to know I enjoy and use the beautifully organized and interesting information you include in your sends!
I do a morning radio show, and I look for your almanac early each morning. Your efforts and sends are much appreciated.
I'm sure I am not the only radio personality using your service for fillers and topics. Thanks again. I wanted you to know your presentation is important to some of us, not just in passing. Your fan,
LY

Pip, you are a trip, a rather interesting one, too. May God and all the angels bless you for the joy you bring to everyone you touch with the almanac. Onward!!!
GM

Pip, I don't have nearly time to read the entire almanac every day, but your celebrations around the world and historical titbits are intriguing. You make the saying that we "learn something new every day" so easily true. I love to learn and you have helped me along on that score as well as providing lite entertainment. You make learning fun. I scan each day's almanac to see what new revelation you have provided, what historical reminder, what quote, who was born, who died, and on and on and on. Then suddenly, you include a joke, a cartoon, or a well written poem of your own. How refreshing!
I hope you never tire of providing such a wealth of surprises every day!!!
SH

Pipster! You rock & Roll! Thanks for all the happy fuzzy thoughts to get through the day!
CW

I'm SO glad I discovered and subscribed ...! It is extremely enjoyable ~ not to mention educational, informative, fun and entertaining, fascinating, eye-opening, mind-broadening (and -boggling). Think it's going to take up a LOT of my time and I'll be enjoying every minute!
LRK

The enjoyment you bring to my household with your ezine is immeasurable. The only analogy I can give is like when I look up a word in a dictionary, and then come across three or four others of interest. It's like that: One just becomes "lost" perusing the various links contained within your mailing. Thank you for your efforts; this house appreciates your work.
ED

YOU ARE A REMARKABLE GENIUS I DISCERNED. THANK YOU FOR GENEROUS SHARING OF YOU TALENT AND ACHIEVEMENTS.
RAK

Heyyy, Pip,
I just had to let you know that either I am really chemical off balance (strong possibility, here) or you are one really on-fire author/writer in your craft. Gosh, the combinations you used including the midi of choice moved me to the very depths of emotion and have left me aghast and breathless! I have enjoyed reading the "Almanac" for many months now and have been moved to get off of my arse to take action that I probably would not have taken if it weren't for reading your works ... Thanks for that, Pip ... It is so cool to see what you're workin' with. Remember that, "You da man, Pip and you got it goin' on!"
Respectfully,
MAS

Pip Wilson has been supporting my website for years, patiently waiting for his turn to get a link from me. I get his daily digest, a compendium of information for every day of the year, which is full of obscure and interesting facts, and sometimes fascinating rants from Pip. I also love his manual on how to feel good in which he lists his aims in life: (a) feel ecstatic and loving; (b) fulfil my dreams; (c) be useful to my family, humanity and the Universe; (d) harm no one and no thing; (e) waste no time.

Hello Pip!
I am a former war correspondent and discovered your site shortly after the millennium started. I was living in Sarajevo, Bosnia at the time (7 years) and felt isolated and detached from others. Your website has been a great source of comfort and inspiration to me over the years ... in Kosovo, Chechnya and now Washington DC where I work w/ young "inner city youth" (their term, not mine) on critical thinking (how to dissect all the media crap thrown at them) and photography/video. To make a long story short, I have enjoyed and appreciate your work, promote it whenever I can and as soon as I make enough money to live indoors and pay bills w/ confidence, I will happily share financial support with you. I just wanted you to know that it's not because I won't, it's because I can't.
MP

BLOWN AWAY! Can't believe what a wealth of information, tidbits, trivia, humor, history, intelligence, affirmation, empathy -- could go on & on, but think you get the drift.
HC

Pip! Keep on Trucking! as they say around here.

Pip you are phenomenal. Hope to meet you!

Pip Wilson's blog is called Wilson's Blogmanac

Here's what one Blogmanac visitor says:

Bookmark this one! - This is a unique combination. Blogmanac: "blog" for news, opinions, tested and recommended links, political and human commentary, and "manac" for one of the best, if not the best, and most tastefully presented almanacs online. Well researched, authoritative, economical and beautifully presented, blogmanac is a must for anyone concerned with where the world is going and where it came from spanning a vast panorama of today yesterday. Full marks to Pip Wilson for producing this e-jewel which will not waste its sweetness on the desert air.
Michelange

And another

Wilson's Almanac, Wilson's Blogmanac and The Book of Days are many things to many people. Let's see, how shall I describe what they are to me? Like spokes of a giant wheel, "it" is a compendium in pixels of folklore, historical oddities, facts often left out of most history books and a treasure trove of knowledge compiled with joy by the almanackist and imaginician we've come to know and love, Pip Wilson. There have been those individuals who have rated his website as poor in design and I say "Fi!" Fi on those without imagination or historical reference in their souls who prefer a website built to specifications representing the prairie-dog-village cubicles of a Microsoft-type common, windowless concrete fortress rather than a leafy bower beside a refreshing, gurgling brook, to an untrod meadow rolling over hills for miles, broken only by oases of surprising springs and lush outgrowths of flowering trees and fascinating earthen outcrops and homes of all fashion to beings of all manner and description never before seen. Fi! Those individuals obviously have never taken "Carpe diem!" seriously, nor have they attempted to explore and catalog every single day and every notable event occurring on every date since time began in comprehensible form in pixels! Try a day or two yourself. You'll find them habit-forming. Christmas is a great place to start!

Please only phone me 9-5, in business hours. I'm a 9-5 bloke. Thank you very much. Australia, (02) 6655 2785. All phone calls are very welcome in those hours.
With me, as with most Aussies, about 10pm is supper time, a good time for the last cuppa of the day.
I might add my news of the day at about that hour, about me and my loved ones, and so on, here at the foot of the page.
